Inside insurance

I’ve been in insurance for 15 years, and I owned a large local agency, Real Good Group. After I sold it, I spent two years as an executive vice president with the private equity firm that bought us, which had 200 employees and more than 30,000 clients across Kentucky and Ohio. A lot of my time went to helping people work through their insurance and their claims.

Why I left

At that size, most decisions came down to money, and taking care of people came second. That wasn’t how I’d run my own agency. My wife knew I wasn’t happy, and she encouraged me to find something where I could help people more directly.

Why roofing, why Addam

Helping people through claims was still what I cared about, and roofing made the most sense because that’s where I had the most experience.

I also knew I needed a partner who was excellent at building. Addam Lewis had been my client for 10 years, and over that time I watched him run a construction, home building and luxury remodeling company. What stood out was his work ethic and his commitment to doing the right thing, year after year. So I asked him to build this company with me.

Building it right

I’ve spent 15 years in construction, owning and running my own company: building homes, doing high-end renovations, and helping homeowners turn plans into finished work. Over that time I learned there’s a big difference between finishing a project and doing it right.

What homeowners deal with

I’ve also seen how frustrating this industry can be for homeowners. Contractors overpromise, corners get cut, communication falls apart, and homeowners are left with problems that never should have happened. If you put your name on something, you stand behind it.

Why UNDERCOVER

When Christian asked me to start a roofing company with him, I wasn’t looking for a new career. I’d already built a business and a reputation. But Christian had handled my insurance for 10 years, and we trusted each other.

He understands policies, claims and how to look out for homeowners. I understand how homes are built and how a roof should be installed. Putting those together could take a lot of the frustration out of storm damage, claims and hiring a contractor.

I wanted to build a company where quality isn’t negotiable, communication matters, accountability starts with ownership, and doing the right thing comes before making an extra dollar. A company where our crews take pride in their work and homeowners feel confident in who they hired.
